Hey guys!

It has become hard to ignore this topic as an artist myself and I believe I should share my standpoint about AI image generation. I am not open for discussion about this topic.

It is important to me that the people who visit my account are well informed about what they can find here and that they do not have to worry about wether my work is manmade or not.

Facts:

- AI image generation is a tool. The data has been illegally been collected (even my art was used to train it). - AI “art” is plagiarism. AI image generation should be properly monitored and needs strict laws.

- It’s here now and we can’t pretend it is not.

Personal standpoint on AI image generation:

I do NOT support the commercial exploit of AI image generation (both prompters and the companies behind it) due to the illegal way the algorithm has been trained.

  • AI image generation is not art*. You are NOT an AI artist.

  • The concept of “AI art” has no place in the art community.

  • Using AI image generation can be enjoyable for personal use in your own time and space.

  • AI image generation can be a great tool for inspiration and reference. (Ideas for themes, poses, backgrounds, compositions, alternatives…)

My opinion about AI image generation is therefore mixed, though right now I am firmly against how it is used, and this can change as I educate myself about the continuing evolving topic.

It is important that you are clear about the use of it. I have tested and played with it myself, but my conclusion is that is depressingly heavily biased and limited.

I am not interested in incorporating it into my workflow as an artist since it makes me uncomfortable. Call me old fashioned, but, I feel that referencing photography, 3D, and other artists gives more authentic results. It's like straight up tracing a 3D model, or tracing a photo of a posed doll, it does't quite feel right when you look at what you drew. And that is how I perceive AI image generation as well, it is an inspiration tool at best and never more than that.

*To me, the exported images from these algorithms are not art. (Some people will argue otherwise) “Art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination”.

AI image generation is not creativity, it is stolen creativity put together by an algorithm, and therefore not art in this specific scenario.

In fact, “AI art” is not even “AI” at all, as it is an algorithm and not artificial intelligence. (Based on TBSkyen)

I used to be excited about the development of AI image generation! I thought; finally I get a tool that might help me fix my terrible perspective issues, or, finally I can create alternate versions of my favourite cat memes. It was great trying it and I loved seeing what it could do, I naively only thought about how it could help us grow as artists. It still can, just not this way. Unfortunately I can genuinely feel my passion for art being swallowed by melancholy and my desire to draw drop steadily, as the more I see our precious art platforms get swamped by these so called “AI artists”, littering mine and other people’s feed with their endless soulless images. Every time I lift my pen I catch myself thinking “What’s the point”. I know, I know I should not let myself succumb to those thoughts, but the human mind does these things.

My issue with it is not the tool itself, but the way it is being exploited for an easy grab of cash.

Many AI “artists” will do minimum effort of letting users know their images are AI generated, so much so they are secretly trying to fool people.

Even my own trained eye, has (nearly) been fooled before. I have a habit of browsing DA for art and adoptables and nearly fell into one of those traps. And that is when I realised how sad it made me.

They will often not state the work is AI in their profile, or image description, but place a tiny tag with “AI” in between the abundance of other tags.

Those who do so are just as bad as those who simply lie about it.

The use of AI in an art process is a grey zone that should be looked at case to case. If your work depends on it, I will not consider you an artist.

Selling AI generated adoptables? Selling AI commissions? Generating high res pretty girl images and selling the downloads?

I just don't feel this is the right place to do that. There should be a different platform for it, so that the buyers know what they get into. Even though I still don't support the commercial gain behind it. Especially those who do it with the intention to deceive others, is upsetting.

Sincerely,

Daffolyn

I don't often put characters up for offer, mainly because I am very strict when I obtain them how much I love them. But unfortunately I don't use these characters anymore, so I am looking to rehome them. They are beloved high quality designs, especially my pony OC holds sentimental value from the good old DA days. Prefer USD to fund my school, but will also look at art! Combining USD/Art works too, not interested in trades. This is the folder: https://toyhou.se/Daffolyn/characters/folder:4625826

Hey guys, I really love Neytirix's series where people can submit their OC and she redesigns them. So I thought, why not host one as well!

So here is the catch, you submit your OC and I will redesign them the way I want.

The video will be uploaded on my youtube channel.

I suppose it's a good way to get it active again! Please share this journal with your friends so I can get more people to enter because I'd like to have a decent pool to choose from.

How to enter:

1. Follow my Instagram. (if you don't have insta, follow anywhere else xd) 2. Post a link to your OC(s) in the comments!

info:

- Your OC stays your OC, you can keep the design I made if you like it. I will never own your OC, you can even use it for commercial use.

- I do wish if you decide to keep my redesign, you to credit me.

- Do not submit closed/open species designs. They have special guidelines already.

- If you want the full image to your redesigned OC, please contact me and I'll send it to you!

- You can use the redesign I made as an ALT form as well.

- If possible, I'd like to read about your OC's personality / story to help me with the redesign.
